For this blog post I wanted to share some summer outfit ideas for mature women. I love doing these lookbooks every season but I find the older I get the harder it is to make the summer fashion video. Being a mature woman myself, I know that mature women are not one cookie cutter group. Some mature women don’t mind wearing sleeveless or rocking a pair of shorts. Other women very much want to cover up certain parts of their body that they’re not comfortable with anymore. And you know what? I understand both! Fashion is truly to each their own and should be a fun way of expressing oneself without fear of judgement. So I do my best to share all different styles and comfortability levels in my lookbook. I’ll be featuring it all – sleeveless tops, shorts and above the knee skirts, long and elbow length sleeves, cropped pants, midi skirts, and long dresses. My hope is that there’s something for everyone in here, so lets get started!
OUTFIT 1
The first outfit I want to share is both classic and trendy – classic because it has a standard issue button-down shirt with shorts, but the trendy part is how the shirt is styled. This is a new fashion trend that popped up this year where influencers are partially buttoning the shirt, half tucking the right side into their pants, and leaving the left side and back untucked. I really, really love this look because it’s so versatile depending on what the weather is, or if you want to expose your arms or not.
The shirt I used to create this look is the Poplin 100% Cotton Shirt which is such a beautiful shirt that can be worn so many different ways. You can tuck it in all the way, untuck it, or leave it unbuttoned over a t-shirt and shorts. It can be wrapped around the waist or laid over the shoulders for the perfect coastal beach vibe. I layered it over a super soft Navy Square Neck Tee with an elbow length sleeve.
For the bottoms I put on some White Patch Pocket Shorts that are made from a really nice, well-fitting stretch cotton. If you watched my Spring Lookbook then you know I have been loving the patch pockets this year. The shoe for this outfit is my favorite pair of chunky Black & White Sandals. I love these sandals because they wear almost like a sneaker making them so comfortable. The perfect accessory to add an extra beachy vibe would be a big Straw Bag.
OUTFIT 2
The second outfit has a similar structure to the first by pairing a long sleeve top over a shorter bottom. This kind of outfit is perfect for those cool summer days or nights, or if you’re going somewhere with air conditioning. The top is a really cute Beach Sweater. I The weave on this sweater is very breathable and lets a lot of air through. I styled this sweater using a French tuck in the front because it is very long. However, you could also wear this as a beach cover up or over something more fitted on the bottom, like leggings.
For the bottoms, I have on a Denim Skirt which I think is a step up from shorts. The details on this skirt are really cute, my favorite being the patch pockets with little gold buttons on them. It’s also made out of stretch cotton, so it’s a little bit forgiving with the sizing. I’m wearing the same shoe with this outfit because the Black & White Sandals are just so versatile. Nothing says summer like a woven Straw Bag and this one is the perfect size. It’s large enough for going to the beach or the pool, but it’s also small enough to use as a handbag.
OUTFIT 3
For outfit number three I wanted to put together something that I could wear to go out for a casual night. I started the outfit with a Green & Blue Striped Tee which has an elbow length sleeve and a deep V neckline. I love the poppy green and bright blue colors in this shirt, it just screams summer to me and almost nautical without being your typical navy blue and white stripes.
I paired the top with the best jeans for the summer which are my favorite White Wide Leg Jeans. These are so cute and good quality while still being so inexpensive. The denim is lightweight enough that they’re not super heavy, but also thick enough that they aren’t see-through. I added a casual Black Strappy Sandal for the shoe to complete the look.
In the summer I am usually chilly inside with the air conditioning or when the sun sets later in the day, so I added a Quarter Zip Hoodie to put on over this outfit. This hoodie is oversized and roomy, but still really cute and flattering on. I think it goes so perfectly with the white jeans and I love the contrasting stitching. This pull-over comes in lots of different colors, but does not have any pockets.
OUTFIT 4
The fourth outfit hits another one of the trends this year, which is gingham fabric. I saw this Gingham Peplum Top and thought it was just so cute and easy to wear because of the peplum. Usually, I have to think about how I am going to style a shirt. Am I going to French tuck it? Tuck half of it in? Leave it hanging out? The peplum on this top takes care of all that extra thinking because it hits perfectly at the hips. The little bows attached to the front are such a cute detail and I like that it isn’t super fitted. It comes in lots of different colors and other patterns as well, including flowers and cheetah print.
I wore the shirt with a plain but great pair of Blue Jeans for the summer. This pair of jeans aren’t necessarily cropped, but I love to fold up the hem to make them into a pair of cropped jeans. The ones I own have a released hem, so they’re a little bit frayed at the edges, but these jeans also come in a sewn hem too. The shoes I have on with this outfit are the cutest Mary Jane Espadrille Flats. I also showed these in my Spring Lookbook, but I’ve been wearing them constantly since then and thought they went perfectly with this outfit.
OUTFIT 5
The next look is for all my boho sisters out there or someone looking for a go-to everyday summer look. I love a pair of cut off jeans because they’re so easy to throw on while still looking cute at the same time. These Levi’s Cut-Off Shorts give me that casual look while still being super comfortable for a day when I’m doing work around the house. For the shirt, I found the most adorable White Boho Peplum Top. This shirt is made from a linen-type fabric that keeps you cool in the summer even with the elbow length sleeves.
I recently purchased new pair of New Balance Sneakers and thought they would be the perfect addition to this outfit. Most of my other athletic/fashion sneakers have leather or suede uppers, which just seems a little bit too heavy for summer. These New Balances have a bit more of a breathable canvas fabric which also makes them very lightweight. I love the giant ‘N’ on the side and the color way because it’s off-white with very pale gray accents creating a bit more dimension. With the sneakers I’m wearing the absolute best No-Show Socks that actually don’t show and also don’t slide down into your shoe.
OUTFIT 6
Outfit six is another casual everyday shorts outfit. For the top, I have a really cute open weave Crochet Tank with a the best White Layering Tank underneath. I think this top looks a little bit nicer and more pulled together than a standard issue t-shirt. If you are not into wearing sleeveless this does come in a Long Sleeve Version. I wear the white tank top under anything that’s see-through because it’s really stretchy and helps hold everything in place.
For the bottoms I chose these White 5” Chino Shorts simply because I absolutely love them. These shorts come in so many colors and I own them in white, peach, and lavender. Best of all they have pockets! Once again for the shoes are the Black & White Sandals, which shows how versatile they really are. I completed this look with a Woven Leather Handbag that’s the perfect size and holds everything you need to run errands or go out for lunch.
OUTFIT 7
Outfit seven is the perfect outfit for almost anything, it could be great for work, running your errands, going out for lunch or even a cocktail, or even a weekend touristing around. It’s a really cute, casual, and lightweight outfit featuring a Lace Yolk Tee with a really pretty inset across the top. The pants I have on are 100% European Linen Pants from Quince, and are great for both spring and summer. These have patch pockets and a flat waistband in the back. A lot of the linen pants I’ve tried either have a drawstring all the way around or elastic in the back, which doesn’t create the most flattering look. But the flat waistband on the these eliminate any bunching or possible diaper butt.
Another huge trend this year is scarves, especially used in unconventional ways like how I did with this outfit. I tied a scarf my mother gave me around my waist and it really added a much needed pop of color. The scarf from my mother is vintage so I tried my best to find a great dupe for you which is this Navy/White Scarf. The shoe that I have on with this outfit is a Black Kitten Heel Sandal. In summer, I like to be able to easily slide my foot into something, but most flip-flops are too casual. So when I want something that’s a little more elevated but still easy to slide on these are my go-to choice. To finish the outfit I once again added the Woven Leather Handbag which ended up matching the pants almost perfectly.
OUTFIT 8
The next outfit is slightly dressier for going out to a nice lunch or date night, while still being really lightweight and breezy. The top I used for this outfit is a Lavender Linen Boxy Top. The hem of this shirt hits just at the waist making it so easy to put on without the need for extra styling. The shirt is really nicely made, fully lined, and I love the square neck on it.
The pants I have on the bottom are these beautiful White Wide Leg Crop Pants. These are just so pretty and have a lot of stretch to them so you can be a little bit of forgiving with the sizing. They have slash pockets that are actually lined with nude colored fabric so they aren’t see-through. To finish off this look I added the Black Kitten Heel Sandals for my shoes and the Woven Leather Handbag as an accessory.
OUTFIT 9
For outfit number nine I used the same Lace Yolk Tee from outfit 7, but this time paired it with a shorter bottom. I really wanted to show the versatility of this top because it can be both casual or dressy depending on what you wear it with. Here I styled the shirt with a Blue/White Faux Wrap Skirt which together makes a great vacation look. This skirt is made from a nice feeling silky fabric that comes in so many different colors and patterns.
Something I love about this skirt is that it has the faux tie, so you don’t have to tie and untie it every time you need to put it on or take it off. It actually has a zipper on this side making it so easy to wear, while still having the wrap around look. I decided to keep this outfit a little bit more casual by wearing it with the Black Kitten Heel Sandals and accessorizing with the Straw Bag.
OUTFIT 10
The tenth outfit is a Blue & White Striped Column Dress made from 100% European linen. This is such a pretty dress and I absolutely loved it from the first wear. My favorite part, of course, is that this is a dress with pockets! It also has a little bit of rouching in the back, a zipper on the side, and is completely lined. The sizing on this dress is also very forgiving. It has little spaghetti straps, which does make it difficult to wear a bra underneath without it showing.
Luckily, last summer, I discovered these great Double Sided Sticky Boobs that actually stick to both your skin and the clothing. By being sticky on both sides, the inserts actually use the dress to hold the girls up and keep them in place. The shoes that I have on are a pair of Clear Kitten Heel Sandals that are a little bit more elevated than the other pair I’ve shown. There are two flesh toned straps that make these look a little bit nicer than the flip-flop version. The heel is also a bit more substantial making these a really gorgeous pair of shoes.
OUTFIT 11
The next outfit also has a 100% European linen dress from Quince. This is their Red Linen A-Line Dress that also has pockets and the rushing in the back. However, this one has wider, adjustable straps and a square neckline. If you’re someone who needs to wear a bra with a dress, I recommend this one over the dress from outfit 10. This is a beautiful dress with an A-line bottom and a zipper on the side. I paired this dress with a pair of Wedge Espadrilles and the Straw Bag to really elevate the look.
With the Fourth of July coming up this dress would be a great base for celebrating the holiday. You could really play into the red, white, and blue theme by adding a White Cardigan Sweater and wearing it over your shoulders. I’ve also been loving the Lobster Sweater trend this year and think that could be really cute over the dress when it cools off at night.
OUTFIT 12
The last outfit for the lookbook revisits the gingham trend with this Yellow Gingham Skirt that I thought was so pretty and feminine. It has a little bit of elastic at the back, but not enough to make it bunch up. It does have a full zip back and is fully lined as well. The skirt comes in lots of different colors and patterns if you’re not into the gingham. It’s a beautiful summer skirt that I would wear to a dressier event like a baby shower, bridal shower, or graduation party.
The top I have on with it is this beautiful White Linen Top. This top is very similar to the red dress with the square neck and thick adjustable straps. In the back it has some rushing and a zipper. It’s also fully lined which is something I look for when purchasing white linen as it tends to be see-through on its own. To complete the look I added the Clear Kitten Heel Sandals and Straw Bag, which really create that perfect summer look.
