Here are the results of an experiment I’ve been doing on my neck for the past 6 months:

I apply the Timeless Matrixyl Synthe 6 in the morning followed by my AM moisturizer, then I use the CeraVe Retinol Cream Serum at night and top it with my PM moisturizer.

Hello Angie

Just discovered your blog and eating it up 🙂 So appreciate the time and effort you put into your reviews.

Angie, for neck, I’m 45 and just noticed a little bit of loose skin just below my chin. Have you ever tried Laser for this area? I’m getting very different views on this. One clinic will swear by a series of tightening treatments and the next says it doesn’t really product satisfactory results.

I’m doing my first IPL photo rejuvenation series starting next week and would love your thoughts on the neck area for specifically a little lose skin 🙂

    Thanks so much for your blog. Would love you to do more on the aging neck. Loose skin and all! I’ve encountered mixed reviews as well for procedures. I saw another blog you commented on about using cortisone on the neck (so that Retin A can be tolerated). Long term that doesn’t seem right? Curious if you have explored that as well.

      Hi Kim~ I’m not a big fan of cortisone and I don’t think I’ve ever mentioned using it or recommended it’s use in regards to Retin-A… perhaps you saw it somewhere else? Anyway, I tend to just stop using things that irritate, wait for the irritation to resolve and then try again slower or using less to see if tolerance can be achieved. xo ~angie

hi Angie!

I am a 30 year old that is obsessed with your blog! I can only hope to look as good as you one day. I am currently using the timeless vitamin C serum w/ elta MD physical sunscreen in the AM, and timeless matrixyl synthe 6 in the PM + alternating between OTC differin gel (acne) and low dose tretinoin microsphere. I have very sensitive skin so I can only use the tretinoin sparingly

My question for you is how can you be sure your neck wrinkle results were not from the retinol alone? Also, do isn’t the matrixyl synthe 6 an expanded peptide of the matrixyl 3000? So why are both necessary in your most up to date beauty routine? Thank you for your help!

  Hi Selma~ You’ll definitely look better than me when you’re my age because you’re taking care of your skin 20 years earlier than I did!! I can’t be sure neck results were from the combo or from one of the products only. Both matrixyl’s aren’t “necessary” but they both offer different results and for me the price is right to use both. xo ~angie

Also, on using the Cereve Retinol face serum along with the Matriyxl 6 serum, can I add my Retin A, along with these 2 at night with both products for the neck?

  Hi Carol~ If you’re going to use Retin-A, there’s really no need to continue with the CeraVe Retinol serum once your skin’s acclimated to Retin-A. Keep using it on the nights your not using Retin-A until your skin acclimates. You can use both at night. Best ~Angie

    Thank you Angie, I was experience some skin irritation around my eyes, I stopped 2-3 days of the Tretinod, just using the vitamin c with Matrixyl 6 serum and regular moisturizing.

Hi Angie,

I currently use the Timeless C+E Ferulic serum and looking to buy a second serum. Between the Coenzyme Q10 serum and the Matrixyl synthe’6 serum, which one would you say is better for treating wrinkles? They both say wrinkle reduction but which one would you say is better if you had to choose?

  My neck is far more sensitive and prone to irritation than my face so I feel like if they didn’t irritate the neck, they’ll be fine on my face. I have used both on my face as well with no problem. Be sure to do a patch test first if you do buy them!

Hi Angie,
I have been following you for about a year now and live watching your videos and recommendations.
I took your recommendation and have been using the Timeless products for over a year now. OMG…. do they ever work. My skin has never looked so good. I am going to be 56 in a week and I get told I look 35 most days. Which is always nice. ‍♀️ I have been using the C & E Ferulic Acid Serium & the Mateix Serium. Now it’s time to re- order. I remember you saying the company guarantees the products to be fresh for 90 days, however on the refill bottles- which are 4 times larger- it says they can last up to 2 years. Would you suggest still only ordering a 90 day supply at a time to make sure it’s fresh?
Another question if you don’t mind.
I real that you did the frazel Laser but have you ever done the Ultheraphy? Any thoughts on if you think it’s worth it and what the average costs should be versus another treatment better for non- invasive facial skin tightening /wrinkle reduction . I read that Ultheraphy was the least invasive treatment for wrinkles and skin tightening. I personally have only done the Syneron Laser and had wonderful results. However, the Med spa that I used closed and have not been have to find another place in the Dallas are that has the Syneron machine. But to me, that particular laser treatment worked wonders on my skin. I would post a photo, but I don’t think it’s possible to do so on here.

  Hi Terri, Don’t know if you ever ended up using Ultherapy but I tried it once. The only thing it did for me was give me a cheft chin which I did not have before and was not what i wanted. It could be the person doing the procedure on me. I had it under my chin and on my neck. I did not have any shots for pain. It might have made her nervous, but it only hurt me when it was close to the chin bone.

Hi Angie- I was wondering if you knew anything about Deciem skincare products, The Ordinary line? I just ordered a few things after reading a Byrdie post, including Matrixyl 10%+ HA and their “Buffet” that has Matrixyl 3000, Matrixyl Synthe ‘6, and an alphabet soup of other peptides! This line has 10 serums, the most expensive of which is $15. Their Formulations use 1 or 2 active ingredients, so you’re only getting and paying for the good stuff! Sooo excited to try! And thanks for your amazing videos and reviews!!!!

Really enjoy your videos and am trying to follow your recommendations. I’m using Retin a and timeless vitamin c serum. On my 2nd purchase of serum now. This last lot arrived as a pale yellow/lemon colour whereas the first was clear. Do you think it is ok to use? Also did you see improvement in jowls and nasolabial folds, and crepeiness/orange peel texture between the eyes. Am considering a lift but wonder if it is worth waiting 12 months since Ive only started 3 or 4 months ago using Retin a and serum.

  If your vitamin C serum arrived yellow you should not use it and contact the company for a refund. They guarantee their Vit C serum to be fresh for 90 days after purchase (which means clear, not yellow). I so think using Retin-A + Vitamin C has improved my nasolabial folds and has kept my jowls from additional sagging, but has not helped with orange peel texture which for me is from enlarged pores not crepiness. I can’t say if you should wait or if you’ll have similar results after a year… for me it really took more like 2-3 years to see a major difference.

      I’ll be getting Ultherapy done on my neck/jaw in April so I’ll be doing a few videos on it then. I don’t think Skincare Physicians offers Ultherapy, they use Pelleve which is similar.

Hi Angie, been following you for some time and have adopted many of your fave products including cera ve and Timeless serums. What do you think about AHA exfoliants? I’ve been reading that exfoliation should be part of weekly skin care routine, but not sure what works and how to get started. I use Retin A, so I thought that took care of it, but wondering if it really does? Thanks for your guidance.

  Hi Lisa~ AHA exfoliators are really good anti-agers so the ideal skincare routine would have some sort of glycolic acid product. The trouble is figuring out where to fit it in if you’re also using Retin-A since you’re not supposed to use them at the same time. One solution is to alternate nights or use AHAs in the morning, or to use AHAs only once a week. Retin-A isn’t considered an exfoliant yet it does cause exfoliation. AHAs basically dissolve the glue that holds dead skin cells on the surface causing more rapid cell turnover. Ideally I do recommend using both if you can… unfortunately I’m not one who can use both because of irritation so I use Retin-A only.

    For AHA products, I like the alpha hydrox brand which is carried by ulta. They are at the right ph level (which is super important if you use and aha). A lot of products say they have AHA, but don’t list the percentage or ph level and that is an issue.
    
    This brand is also very reasonably priced.
    
    I have Rosacea and hormonal acne on my chin and I initially used AHA at night about 5x a week. This definitely improved the morning texture of my skin. About 8 months ago, my doctor introduced retina .025 into the mix. It has really helped with both the hormonal acne and fine lines on my skin. I now use retina about 5 nights per week and aha 1-2 nights per week and this combo does the trick for me.
    
    So morning routine is pretty much like Angie’s except I add prescription finacea for Rosacea and order is as follows
    
    1. Timeless vitamin c ferulic acid
    2. Finacea
    3. Moisturizer with sunscreen ( la Roche posay)
    4. Primer and or whatever foundation or bb creme I wear that day
    
    Thanks again Angie. I don’t think I would have had the courage or patience to stick thru the intro of retina without the info shared on your blog. I tried several years ago and it was the wrong percentage at the time and I couldn’t get past the irritation so I stopped. Lowering the percentage and introing it gradually like you outline was key for me. Now I get lots of complements on my skin. Pretty awesome for pushing 50!!!!

    So happy to have discovered you an your youtube videos. Angie, I have a question. Have you ever had the CO2 Laser Resurfacing procedure done? I am 67 and feel much younger but my face has some set wrinkles. Doctor immediately suggested this procedure. After researching on internet, I am still not certain if I should do this. So…who would I turn to but Angie. This is the first time I have been to a dermatologist and find it a bit daunting. Any information from your experiences and knowledge would be great.       Hi Kathy, I’m so happy you feel you can look to me for advice! I don’t have first hand experience with the CO2 procedure, but I have a friend who had it done, and I know a little bit about it. First thing is it’s an ablative procedure which means it removes the entire top layer of skin so there’s quite a bit of discomfort after the procedure and more downtime. It’s also more expensive than most of the non-ablative procedures. But that said, it’s a once and done treatment (at least for a few years). I had the Fraxel Dual laser in January which is non-ablative. It cost $1,500 but you generally need 2-4 treatments to see the same results as you can get from one CO2 (one CO2 will run about $4,500) so it averages out to about the same. The person I know who had CO2 was red and raw and in a lot of pain for 1-2 weeks after the procedure and had to treat it like an open wound (that’s standard for CO2), but once it healed she looked fantastic and once she forgot about the recovery she said it was worth it and she loved the results. For more personal experiences you can look on realself.com to see what it’s overall rating and satisfaction is. Of course there are also more risks.
