I opened my InStyle Magazine and in it was a sample of Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua, and since I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect lightweight foundation I pulled it out and gave it a try! I used Benefit PoreFessional Primer underneath the foundation, and applied both with my fingers.
There was actually quite a bit of foundation (enough for my whole face x3)! Chanel calls this an “ultra-light skin perfecting makeup”, it has spf 15, and the sample came in the color “30 Beige”. The color isn’t a perfect match for me, but what can you expect from a magazine sample?
It feels really soft, smooth, and lovely. It blends easily and goes on nicely. The color is slightly light and pink for me. It feels weightless, and gives a very sheer coverage. It did a good job of evening out my overall skin tone, but didn’t cover over darker spots like age spots and blemish marks. It floats easily over more moisturized, smoother skin, but didn’t blend easily on dry patches.
The finish is pretty and skin-like, it’s neither matte nor dewey. It retails for $45 for 1 oz. It wore well and looked nice for 3-4 hours.
Wearability and lasting power:
After 6-7 hours it was worn off on the surface, but had settled into my pores and dry patches leaving a streaky, whitish, spotty look. It didn’t control oil in the T-zone, so I was shiny there.
The ingredients are disappointing in this formulation. Aside from a quality mineral sun block (but only in an spf 15), the main ingredients are water, dimethicones, trimethicones, alcohol, and talc. For me, the alcohol content makes this too drying, and the rest of it just isn’t worth the price. You could get a similarly formulated foundation at the drugstore that would look just as bad after 5 hours and save $30.
