Empties | February 2016 | Skin Care Edition
The Empties Bin was full so that means it’s time to take a trip through my trash can to see what I’ve used up this month! I know lots of you have been waiting for my updated skin care routine, and I’m getting on it, but I was away on vacation and will have it for you in another week or two. In the mean time, this month’s empties are mainly my go-to skin care faves!
This is my day time moisturizer because of the great ingredients. The PM means that it doesn’t contain sunscreen (I use a separate all-mineral sunscreen). It’s got ceramides, niacinamide, glycerin, and hyaluronic acid. Niacinamide is a vitamin B3 derived anti-oxidant that scavenges free radicals, it improves the skins barrier function, it’s anti-inflammatory, and it helps with skin cell turnover! Hyaluronic Acid is a water binding molecule that sits on the surface of the skin and helps it look more youthful and plump. Ceramides are fatty lipids that are naturally occurring in the skin. I feel like I’m feeding my skin from the outside with this moisturizer!
Timeless 20% Vitamin C + E Ferulic Acid Serum* (Save $5, link below)
This is a 20% Vitamin C serum with Vitamin E and Ferulic acid to fight free-radicals in the skin and help reduce age spots and brighten. The ingredients in this are almost identical to a $150 vitamin c serum but at a fraction of the cost ($24.95)! I always re-order when I have about a weeks serum left.
Timeless CoEnzymeQ10 Serum* (Save $5, link below)
I recently switched from Timeless Matrixyl 3000 serum to this CoQ10 serum because this contains both Matrixyl 3000 and Coenzyme Q10, both of which show promise in research for helping aging skin look and feel younger.
Olay Regenerist Micro-Sculpting Serum*:
I’ve been using this serum since it first came out because of it’s great ingredients, and how it makes my skin look and feel. This also contains Niacinamide and Hyaluronic Acid as well as free-radical fighting Peptides!
Olay Regenerist MicroSculpting Cream*
I’ve used up another pot of my favorite night time moisturizer. I don’t know what it is about this cream, but it leaves my skin feeling baby soft in the morning. It contains peptides, niacinamide, and hyaluronic acid. I buy it in the 2 pack at Costco and always have a supply in the closet.
Neutrogena Rapid Wrinkle Repair Night*
I tried this Neutrogena retinol product on my neck because I can’t use Retin-A there because of sensitivity. I won’t be re-purchasing this because I didn’t see any results after 6 months and it started to irritate my neck and make it look worse.
Kirkland Daily Facial Towelettes*
I buy these wipes in a giant box from Costco. They gently wipe away makeup without drying alcohol or harsh chemicals. These super soft wipes contain cucumber, chamomile flower extract, aloe, and vitamin E to moisturize and soothe while gently removing makeup including waterproof mascara. I’m not sure if I’m repurchasing these just yet since I found the rubbing around the eye area to remove mascara caused too much pulling on the skin. I’m trying a coconut based “melting” cleanser now, so I’ll let you know which I end up sticking with in my next skincare update.
I started using this sponge to wash my face a few months ago and I really like it! This one is in the trash because they do grow bacteria after a while and should be replaced every 2-3 months. The Konjac sponge is a root vegetable product that’s like styrofoam when dry, but add water and it puffs up to a soft sponge that’s great at gentle exfoliation!
Exuviance Sheer Daily Protector SPF 50 PA++++*
I go through sunscreen like crazy and my all time favorite is the Exuviance Sheer Daily Protector because of it’s all mineral SPF 50 and PA++++ rating. The PA++++ is the highest rating for UVA rays so it protect from both UVB and UVA (the aging rays). It’s pricey, but it lasts me long time because I only use it on my face. For my neck and chest I use other all mineral spf 50 sunscreens that leave a white cast, or are too shiny for the face (see next sunscreen).
Neutrogena Healthy Defense Daily Moisturizer with Sunscreen (PureScreen)*
This is a great drugstore sunscreen in something like Exuviance is out of the price range. It works pretty well under makeup but it does leave a slightly white cast so I use it on my neck and chest daily. I love it that Neutrogena makes an all mineral sunscreen under their “PureScreen” label for those of us who’s skin gets irritated using chemical sunscreens.
Colgate Optic White Toothpaste*
People ask me all the time how I keep my teeth so white so I thought I’d show you my Colgate Optic White toothpaste. That’s not the whole story though because my “social 6” are veneers. They’re supposed to stay white, but even veneers get dingy over time. I think this toothpaste has really helped to keep my veneers and my real teeth look whiter.
Olay Quench Ultra Moisture Body Lotion*
Olay Quench Ultra Moisture is my year-round daily body lotion because it contains shea butter, vitamin e and niacinamide to moisturize and help improve skin’s moisture barrier. Niacinamide has been shown in clinical trials to lighten discolorations, reduce wrinkles, and improve elasticity so I love it that it’s the 3rd ingredient in this lotion! It’s smooth silky consistency glides over skin and absorbs quickly.
Thanks for taking a trip through my trash with me, hope you enjoyed!! xo Angie
