Fab or Fail? ~ Alterna Caviar CC Cream vs. Living Proof Perfect Hair Day

We’ve all seen the ads lately for revolutionary new 5-in-1 or 10-in-1 hair styling products that promise to transform your average hair into fantastic hair, but do they really work? I recently bought two of them to try and compare, so it’s Alterna Caviar CC Cream vs. Living Proof Perfect Hair Day.

Here are the details on each:

Alterna Caviar CC Cream 10-in-1 Total Hair Perfecter

Alterna Caviar CC Cream

Alterna Caviar CC Cream

$ 25.00 for 2.5 oz.

10 Benefits: moisture, shine, smoothness, softness, anti-breakage, heat protection, uv protection, light hold, manageability, & strength.

I really did not want to buy this or like it because of the price, but I got a free sample with purchase from Ulta or Sephora and fell in love with the scent on 1st use.

Living Proof Perfect Hair Day

Living Proof Perfect Hair Day

Living Proof Perfect Hair Day

$25 for 4 oz.

5 Benefits (but it lists 7): Shine, smoothness, softness, heat protection, uv protection, manageability, conditioning, & volume.

I really wanted to buy this and like it. I’m a big fan of MIT and science based products and often model my hair after their spokes-woman Jennifer Aniston.

How they compare:

Cost: Perfect Hair Day wins on price! They’re both expensive, but you get twice as much for the same price as Alterna’s CC cream.

Scent: The Alterna CC wins in the scent category. It smells fresh and lemony, and reminds me of a spa I once visited in Costa Rica… just heavenly! Living Proof PHD just smells weird. I can’t even describe what it smells like, except to say, funky.

Feel: Alterna CC also wins for feel. My hair feels soft, silky, and smooth whether wet or dry… it’s the feel of healthy hair! With Living Proof PHD, my hair feels fine when it’s dry, but when wet, it feels coarse and like dry over processed hair (which it is, but I don’t want it to feel like it)!

Styling: It was a slightly closer call on styling, but again, the Alterna CC is the winner (and therefore the winner overall)! My hair looked better, was more manageable, and the style lasted longer than usual using both products. The PHD provided more volume, but also more frizz, and less hold. I’m not big into volume, and I’m even less into frizz, so since the Alterna made my hair lay flatter with less frizz (in my opinion this is more like the look of healthy hair) I preferred it over the Living Proof product.

You know I always have to have a comparison picture so you can judge for yourself! Here it is:
