Today’s Foundation Friday is on the NEW Temptu Air airbrush makeup system. I’ve been curious about airbrush foundation ever since I saw an infomercial on it that said it was perfect for mature skin because it offers pro blending with pore and wrinkle smoothing. So when Temptu offered me their new product to try out I jumped at it!
And, when they offered me TWO to give away to my followers I jumped twice as high! They’re also offering a free gift to anyone who makes a $150 purchase at Temptu.com. Details on how to enter and how to receive your free gift with purchase are at the end of the post.
What makes the Temptu Air different from other models is that it’s the first lightweight, portable, rechargeable, cordless makeup airbrush! Their patented technology delivers less makeup and more complete coverage than other application methods.
The Temptu Air retails for $195 and includes the airbrush unit and charging cord. The pods of foundation sell for an additional $45. They also make blush, bronzer, and highlighter in smaller pods for $30. Temptu Air is sold at Temptu.com, QVC*, Nordstrom*, and Bloomingdales.
Foundation Pods come in 12 shades and contain Temptu’s 4-in-1 SilkSphereTM Technology that smoothes and minimizes pores, fine lines and wrinkles. It’s your foundation, primer, concealer and corrector in one. The foundation is dermatologist tested, oil free, non-comedogenic, paraben, phthalate and gluten free.
Foundation pods contain a water and silicone formula that doesn’t contain any drying SD alcohol, but it does contain fragrance. It has a flowery scent that dissipates after about half an hour. The beauty of airbrush makeup is that you can get from sheer to full coverage depending on how many ultra thin layers of foundation you apply:
- 1-2 passes for sheer coverage
- 3-4 passes for medium coverage
- 4-5 passes for full coverage
Using TEMPTU Air is definitely an investment, but it eliminates the need for lots of makeup brushes and sponges and it’s more hygienic since the only thing that touches your skin is air and makeup.
There are tutorials and videos on the TEMPTU website showing how to use the machine to get perfect coverage. I’ve used it 4 times over the last week or two and I have to say there is a learning curve to using the airbrush. In my first 2 uses, I made all the mistakes but by my 3rd try I was able to apply my foundation, blush, bronzer and highlighter like a pro!
Today, I applied foundation in 005 Beige using 4-5 thin coats of makeup and looking in the mirror to check the coverage between coats. I found the shade a little light for me so I warmed it up around the edges with the bronzer and then contoured my cheeks and under my chin with a closer pass of bronzer for more detail. I used one pass of Peony Pink blush on the apples of my cheeks and added a shot of highlighter in Champagne on my cheekbones, brow bones and cupids bow.
I love how easy the airbrush device is to operate and that there’s no clean up! You just pop out the pod and you’re ready to go next time. The foundation has a very luminous/shiny finish that I don’t love for older skin, but, I do love that it is smoothing on the pores and wrinkles.
Applying the 4-5 coats and checking in between can be time consuming especially for beginners (me), as can changing the pods in and out to apply the other makeup. It probably took a good 7-10 minutes to achieve this look. But, I’m sure I’ll get faster the more I use it.
The foundation looks fairly natural, and even at full coverage it definitely doesn’t look cakey. It feels lightweight on the face and can be worn all day without drying out the skin. It does remain tacky to the touch for the duration and comes off on the phone easily.
Flash photography doesn’t result in any flashback, but the flash definitely captures the shine:
The foundation wears well all day. It looks much the same after 5 hours as when first applied and I definitely prefer it with a coat of mattifying powder:
It was still smoothing my wrinkles and diminishing my pores after 5 hours:
But the shine was breaking though and it needed blotting or powdering again:
By 10 hours it’s a little worn off and was sliding around and clumping up on my forehead slightly:
Overall, I wish I could review the machine and the makeup separately because I LOVE the ease, convenience, and portability of the TEMPTU Air, but the actual TEMPTU foundation was a mixed bag for me. I loved the youthful glow and smoothing of pores and wrinkles, but would prefer less shine and better dry-down. Even so, it was one of the better looking foundations that I’ve tried, it would be nice if there were other foundation types to choose from.
- Easy to use
- Smoothes pores & wrinkles
- Eliminates balling & pilling of other skincare/sunscreen (can use over any sunscreen)
- No mess, no cleaning device
- No alcohol
- No brushes/sponges to clean
- Learning curve
- Cost (it’s an investment)
- Shine and tackiness
