July Favorites! | Lancome, Laura Mercier, Living Proof
I’ve been so busy testing foundations lately that I haven’t had time to show you some of the other new beauty products I’ve been using and loving lately! Here are my July Favories from brands like Lancome, Laura Mercier, Living Proof and more!
I’m obsessed with sunscreen so I’ll start there…
Even though I did an exhaustive search and comparison of all-mineral sunscreens back in the spring, I didn’t find one that was perfect in every way (wearable on it’s own, under liquid makeup, and under powder makeup), so I’ve been trying more behind the scenes and there are two that I like quite a bit (although they haven’t been put to the same rigorous testing as the others).
La Roche Posay Anthelios Mineral 50 Sunscreen*
In the sunscreen comparison I included the tinted version of this sunscreen and was disappointed to see that it only contained Titanium Dioxide as the sole screening ingredient. I couldn’t recommend the product because it doesn’t screen much of the UVA spectrum. When I saw that there was an un-tinted version that contains both Titanium Dioxide and Zinc Oxide and antioxidants I had to try it.
It’s a pretty wearable sunscreen that’s not too shiny and only leaves a slight whitish cast on the skin that can easily be covered by powder foundation. It wouldn’t have won the sunscreen testing, but the reason it’s in my July favorites is that it’s 40 minutes water resistant. I’m going on my beach vacation soon and was looking for a lightweight all-mineral spf 50 water-resistant sunscreen and this fits the bill for days on the beach, in the ocean, and on my bike.
Paula’s Choice Resist Super-Light Daily Wrinkle Defense SPF 30*
Apparently I’m really good at choosing the wrong product from a brand’s offerings! I did it with the La Roche Posay sunscreen and I did it again with the Paula’s Choice sunscreen that I included in the all-mineral testing post. As soon as I posted it the comments started pouring in that Paula’s Resist Super-Light Daily Wrinkle Defense with spf 30 was the one to use so I got that and gave it a shot and it didn’t disappoint.
It’s a lightweight, tinted moisturizer for normal to oily combination skin. The tint is very light and sheer and doesn’t provide anything in the way of coverage but it does set up to a nice dry, non-greasy matte finish that is very wearable on it’s own. I haven’t examined it under makeup yet but I do like how makeup goes on over it. It seems to grab and hold both liquid and powder and seems to work almost like a primer!
Living Proof Humidity Shield Hair Spray*
This is another product that was sent my way by the company because they’d seen my struggle with summertime frizz in my videos. There’s nothing worse than spending 45 minutes styling my hair inside my air conditioned house only to see it puff up the minute I step outside into the humid summer air. This spray is applied after styling and offers lightweight hold and an invisible shield against moisture and frizz – and it works!
Lancome Hypnose Drama Mascara*
My all time favorite mascara, CoverGirl ClumpCrusher suddenly started flaking really badly so while in Sephora I asked the SA to recommend a volumizing, lengthening, non-flaking mascara and she steered me to Lancome Hypnose Drama and I like it very much. It’s definitely volumizing and lengthening. . . so much so that the YouTube viewers have been asking me if I’m wearing false lashes since I started wearing it! Love that. The formula contains lots of little bits that hang onto the lashes and if left there, they flake off and end up under my eyes by the end of the day. It’s best applied and then combed through to remove the “bits” and separate the lashes. The lashes are long, thick and fluttery and it’s easy to remove!
Make Up For Ever Aqua Lip Liner in 3C*
I was looking for a less drying lip liner and picked up Make Up For Ever Aqua Lip at Sephora. 3C is a really creamy sharpenable pencil that’s not at all drying to wear. The color is very natural on me and works well under nude, pink, and berry lipsticks, and it has great staying power. I liked it so much I bought another one in a lighter color but that one was not as creamy so I returned it.
Laura Mercier Paint Wash in Nude Rose*
I had wanted to try this new liquid lipstick ever since I saw an ad for it in a magazine. I picked it up at Nordstrom a month ago and have been wearing it constantly ever since. It has a doe foot applicator like a lip gloss but the feel is so much better then a gloppy sticky gloss. It feels soft and cushiony with a whipped up texture that feels great on the lips. The finish is somewhere between soft-gloss and matte.
Laura Mercier Cheek Colour in Orange Blossom*
I met a talented makeup artist (Sue Pike) when I went to NYC for my Woman’s Day Magazine photo shoot. Sue took great care of me and the makeup was perfect for my column. She used mostly Laura Mercier products and after the shoot she had her contact at LM send me a care package of products and this blush was one of the items she sent. It’s the perfect sun kissed summertime cheek color. It’s got a little shimmer that highlights the cheekbones beautifully.
Urban Outfitters Burning Rays Statement Necklace*
I picked up this necklace about a month after I first saw it at Urban Outfitters. It haunted my thoughts for the entire month so I had to go back and get it, and I’m so glad I did. It’s a great summer statement necklace evoking sunshine and bird feathers.
