This week I tried on, tested, and reviewed the new L’Oreal True Match Hyaluron Tinted Balm Foundation [Not Sponsored]. This balm was previously released in Europe and is now being sold in the United States. This is a replacement for a product in their line that was discontinued a couple of years ago which was the L’Oreal Age Perfect 4-in-1 Balm. That product was one of my favorite go-to everyday foundations, something that was great for kicking around, running errands, and other daily activities. So, I’m really excited to see how this compares to the original and how it compares to the IT Cosmetics Do It All Sheer Tint Face Balm, which is also made by L’Oreal. I tested the IT Cosmetics Face Balm a few weeks ago and you can find that review video here.
THE MAKEUP LOOK
Before testing the foundation I started with my skincare routine, followed by the Haru Haru Wonder Black Rice Airy Fit Sunscreen. I then did do my eyeshadow, eyeliner, mascara, and under eye concealer, leaving the main part of my face makeup free. For this foundation I did my usual 5-hour check in and 10-hour check in to see how it holds up throughout the day.
L’Oreal True Match Tinted Balm
The L’Oreal True Match Tinted Balm comes in a makeup compact and is a solid balm product. Inside the compact is also a mirror and a little sponge applicator to apply the product. I wasn’t sure which shade to get, so I purchased the shades 2.5 and 4, which are neutral light and light medium respectively. I started out trying 2.5 because I felt like 4 looked just a little bit dark for me, however after a swatch test I decided to use 4 for this makeup look as it ended up being a closer match for me. I applied the foundation using the BK Beauty 106 Brush and found that the coverage was heavier than I expected.
This is advertised as a light to medium buildable foundation, but I had to buff it out a bit since it didn’t glide across the skin as well as the original version. It has a much shinier finish than the original 4-in-one balm too. This was super shiny off the fronts of my cheeks and was overall waxy on the skin upon initial application. This product was also fragranced, which I found to be a little annoying at first, but it dissipated pretty quickly.
Blush, Bronzer, & Powder
Once I had finished applying the foundation, I used my A507 Angled Blush Brush to apply the Catrice Velvet Pudding Blush to my cheeks. This was a new blush for me and I used shade Strawberry Mochi. I really liked the cream consistency of it and found that it was really easy to blend.
I then went in and contoured my face a little with the Saie Supersuede Bronzer in shade Palermo. Finally I powdered under my eyes and down my T-Zone using the Catrice Soft Blur Matte Setting Powder. I applied the powder with the BK Beauty 108 Precision Powder Brush to give my eyes a more awake look and my makeup a less shiny finish.
Catrice Lip Combo
I also tried a couple new lip products from Catrice which were the Gel Glide Lip Liner and the Filler Supreme Lip Gloss. The liner shade is called Line Me Softly and is a nice pinky nude color. It had such a nice creamy feel to it, making it really easy to work with and apply. The lip gloss shade is Nude, Not Rude which is a bit less pink toned than the lip liner. These two together make a really beautiful lip combo.
THE FINISHED LOOK
When I first looked at the L’Oreal True Match Tinted Balm on my skin it looked really heavy and waxy, but after applying the rest of the makeup it had really settled in nicely and the coverage was great. It was smoothing out my pores and the texture of my skin, and it wasn’t sliding around under the rest of the makeup.
5-HOUR CHECK IN
At the 5-hour check-in the L’Oreal True Match Tinted Balm was still feeling so lightweight and set on the skin. It wasn’t coming off under my fingernails or transferring all over the place. I feel like it looks like my skin, while still giving me that nice radiant lit from within glow. While it had settled in a few small wrinkles mainly around my mouth, there isn’t any terrible settling.
It was definitely a little bit shiny around my nose and on my cheeks, but nothing a little powder touch up can’t fix. My skin feels hydrated, but it doesn’t feel sticky or greasy, it just feels comfortable, which is really nice. I think I like it better than the original version and I definitely like it better than the IT Do It All , which did not look nearly this good at 5 hours.

10-HOUR CHECK IN
At the 10-hour check-in the L’Oreal True Match Tinted Balm was still looking really beautiful from a distance. I don’t think it looked very worn off at all. I did see a tiny bit of wear around each nostril, but not so much anywhere else. It didn’t slide around or come off under my finger nails. I don’t think it accentuated my pores or skin texture, and it made my fine lines and wrinkles look a little better because it has that nice glowy, dewy finish. I went out for a cocktail and someone asked me if I was testing a new foundation and that it looked really, really nice. It’s a very hydrating, moisturizing formula, so it felt very comfortable to wear. My skin didn’t feel like it was getting dried out by the end of the day. After 10 hours of wear I did feel like it was a little bit too shiny for me, especially through my T-zone and above my upper lip. The side of my nose did look a little bit crusty, like some of the foundation had gathered there. Overall, I really like this one, I thought it looked great all day.

The one gripe I have with it is the per ounce price, which is pretty up there with the ounce for ounce price point being over $50, which puts it in the same price range as like a Laura Mercier. If you don’t mind spending $14.99 on less than a quarter ounce, then you could like it, but if you think that the ounce for ounce price is just too much, then you might not really appreciate this one or that L’Oreal is charging so much for what is supposed to be a drugstore priced foundation. The only other thing besides the price that I didn’t love about this was that they added fragrance to it. I could smell it when I was putting it on, but I got to say it dissipated quickly and I didn’t smell it for the rest of the day.

THE COMPARISON
The new version of the L’Oreal True Match Tinted Balm retails for $14.99 for 0.23 oz. ($53.54/oz.) if you buy it at Target, Walmart, or Amazon. On the L’Oreal website, it’s $17.99 for 0.23 oz. of product, which makes it $64.25 an ounce if you buy it from L’Oreal directly. This products comes in 12 shades and is supposed to be buildable, light medium coverage. It’s advertised as being 80% skin care with the featured skincare ingredient being hyaluronic acid. L’Oreal also says that it will never look greasy or cakey, and will minimize the look of your fine lines and wrinkles and even your skin tone. I feel like first putting it on I felt like it did look greasy, but that went away once it dried back. I also don’t feel like this will ever look cakey because it is so emollient. It definitely did even my skin tone, cover up any redness, and minimize the look of my wrinkles.

Compared to IT Do It All
Most foundations, like the IT Do It All, are water, silicone, and then a bunch of other stuff. The L’Oreal True Match Tinted Balm is interesting because there’s no water or silicones, but yet it’s very lightweight feeling on the skin. This is mainly made out of fatty alcohols, waxes, and emollients. From that standpoint, I see where they’re calling this 80% skin care because it is a lot of fatty alcohols and emollients, that are going to be moisturizing for the skin. The formulations could not be more different from each other. The It Do It All and the original 4 in-1 tinted balm ingredients were almost identical ingredient for ingredient. The IT Do It All comes in 15 shades, which is 3 more then the L’Oreal Tinted Balm. The price on these are very similar when you consider the ounce for ounce price. The IT Do It All is $34 for 0.63 oz. ($53.97/oz.) which is very close to the L’Oreal Tinted Balm’s $53.54/oz.
Compared to Original L’Oreal 4-in-1 Balm
The original L’Oreal 4-in-1 came in eight shades and was about $12 for 0.63 oz. ($19/oz.) which is much cheaper than the new formula. However, the L’Oreal True Match Tinted Balm formula is actually an improvement over the previous formula. I like this one better and I think it wears better than the previous one. That almost never happens when companies discontinue and reformulate a product, generally it’s not as good. So, I was really pleasantly surprised to see how much more I liked this formula. If you loved the L’Oreal 4-in-one balm and you’re missing that one, you could probably pick up the It Do It All since the formulas on those are nearly identical. Overall, the new L’Oreal Tinted Balm is the obvious winner out of the three.
