Thank you so much 4 your videos. As a 45 yr old & just starting menopause….hv learned a lot & feel more hopeful from you sharing. I’m not even into a week of trying my 1st herbal choices 4 now. & I was shocked @ how much better I feel. I didn’t realize my symptoms were menopausal till watching you. I now feel like I can start 2 tackle some of my issues & that they are normal. Thanks.
Also, I really started watching because of your skin care & makeup. Have tried many of the products from your reviews. It is helpful as I hv an addiction. 😉 Stream lines some of the cost in my arsenal of makeup & skin choices! Love them!

I just discovered your website about a week ago! I love the name too! 😉 I was looking for tips for large pores and found you!

I’m 53 and I’m just starting to experience night sweats…I occasionally get them the night before I get my period. I hadn’t thought of seeing my doctor yet to check my hormone levels, so thanks for that tip. I do have family history of breast cancer…my mother and two of her sisters had it. Two of them have died from it and my father’s sister has had it too, so not sure if HRT is even a thought for me. Plus I’ve never been good with taking medication, even vitamins, although I’m getting better at that, only out of vanity because my hair started thinning last year! So now I take a vitamin with DHT blocker, biotin and bunch of other stuff. I also take Black Cohosh and Evening Primrose when I can remember! They are both supposed to help with symptoms of menopause.

I really enjoy your videos! Keep it up!

Hi Angie.

I am one of those people who has a family history of cancer, so opted to not use any hormone replacement therapy. It has been a difficult road to find something that actually works. I tried all the over the counter product – Estroven, etc. I also went to an herbalist who had natural tinctures that were supposed to work. Nothing really did. I was having hot flashes every 2 hours. It was awful. I did some research and found that there were a couple of options by prescription, that were off use, that had promise. After discussing with my doctor – I started taking Clonidine. A medicine for high blood pressure. I do not have high blood pressure, but the dose is low enough that the only side affect was slight dry mouth. It makes you drowsy, but you take it at night – so it helps you sleep too. Another great thing is insurance DOES cover it. Additionally, even if you dont use insurance, it was $10 for 30 days! This is way less expensive than all the over the counter medicines that didnt even work. This medication has made my hot flashes completely go away. I am a big fan!

  Thank you so much for this information. I looked it up and it’s also known in Holland. A friend of mine can’t sleep anymore because of the hot flashes. I will tell her about it. But I also keep it in mind. I’m 52 now and I don’t have hot flashes yet. My mom had them for about 20 years so maybe I know what lies ahead of me 😉

Angie, so glad you did a post on this subject. I am 57 years old and have been on HRT for 3 years. I have an estrogen patch (Vivelle Dot) and I take progesterone because I still have my uterus. I love them! They stopped my hot flashes almost immediately. The progesterone helps me with sleep. I was taking 100mg and had her up it to 200mg because of the sleep enhancing properties. I take the progesterone before I go to bed. In addition, I do think it helps my skin. Before I started taking HRT, I noticed my skin looking haggard. After starting the HRT, my skin improved as well. I’ve known women who have been on it for 10+ years and they say they’ll never quit if they don’t have to. 1 person I know quit after being on it for 16 years, and she’s regretted ever since. She says she felt like she aged overnight. I know some women have trouble using it. For myself, I plan on using it as long as I can. I’m fighting aging every way I can and this, for me, is just another part of the anti aging puzzle.

You’re right. I don’t feel like I used to. I’m tired a lot! I’m heavier than I should be! The migraines did not stop. Some days seem overwhelming, and in the winter, I go to work in the dark and come home in the dark, and how to fit in the exercise at lunchtime if the weather is bad?! If I avoid wine and caffeine, I can avoid hot flashes. I can’t do the level of activities I used to when I was a stay at home mom in my 30s and 40s. I do sleep like a rock , however. I am divorced and on my own, after nearly 30 years of marriage, at a great job, with lots of friends and my children who encourage me. Older friends especially, in their 60s, 70s, 80s and beyond, give me courage. I am at peace in my own home. I try to tell myself, all those I have known, who died before they ever got to my age (58) , would love to be here, no matter what. We are the lucky ones. I know that sounds Pollyanna, but I want to see my children’s children grow up and start their own lives. To do that, I need to pay attention to my health. Anything else , in addition, is a bonus. For some reason, we have to go through this daily aggravation to get there.

Hi Angie!

Thank you so much for posting this! I was on the patch for two years, and my insurance didn’t cover it either. Every time I went to pick it up at CVS I probably made a spectacle of myself over the lack of coverage for women’s medications. That sucks almost as much as the hot flashes, lack of sleep, irritability, mood swings—ugh!

The patch really made a difference for me! I hope you have similar results. You are certainly not alone in this.

One way to get more hormones for your money. Have your doctor prescribe a dose twice as high as you need. Cut them in half and the patches will last twice as long. That my trick

I would LOVE to hear more insight and advice on menopause, I’m struggling with it myself; sleeplessness, hot flashes, weight gain and would love to hear how others are managing it without drugs causing problematic side effects. THAT is holy grail advice I might just pay for! Unfortunately most of my late-40s/early 50s girlfriends are skipping over menopause by being on birth control. My OB offers Brisdelle which I couldn’t get used to and I’d prefer a natural treatment (but I don’t believe there is one that actually works on symptoms).

Hi Angie!
Great post! I too am on HRT. My Dr opted for bioidenticals, so I take an estradiol pill in the am and progesterone extended release at night, which actually helps with sleep. Since being on these meds. I have had none to minimal symptoms. No hotflashes, no dryness, no brain fog yada yada.
All my meds are covered by insurance, so probably depends on what type of coverage you have, but even the compounded progesterone is covered.
I completely agree that we should be vocal with our ins. companies and legislators about women’s health issues. Unfortunately with the new administration in the White House we can forget about it. They are now taking away women’s reproductive rights!!
Yikes, now I am getting political. ;(

Angie thanks so much for posting about this, it really and truly does suck. I feel your pain with the lack of sleep. When it first starts happening you’re like what is going on?! and then you’re worried its going to happen again the next night. I don’t know if your patch will help you sleep better but if it doesn’t, I wanted to let you know that if you wake with a heat flash and can’t get back to sleep you can take melatonin 3mg – its fast acting to help you get back to sleep but you won’t be groggy when you get up. I love the above posts – it is so nice to know you’re not alone, I agree!! and ‘not for sissies’ – girlfriend, can’t tell you how much time I spend filling in the bald spots on my eyebrows and plucking all the new unwanted facial hair, its ridiculous!!! The joy of being a woman just never ends!

Sucks!!! I thought I could handle menopause. Hot flashes-insomnia…okay…but then vaginal atrophy. Sigh. Started estrace cream and it works wonderfully except now I have acne. I am 54 and I have acne just like I did and age 12! All around my mouth and nose. I had my hormone levels tested and they came back normal. My dermatologist doesn’t seem to concerned so now I am looking for a new doctor. And I am looking for new makeup and a cleansing routine since I now have dry skin and acne and none of m previous products work well.

  I am like you – ok hot flashes, insomnia I can deal but the vaginal atrophy seriously effected my headspace. Seriously, WTF.
  Anyway, I am using oestrogen pessaries which have done the job – you insert them every day for 2 weeks then once or twice a week. As it is such a small amount of oestrogen I can have it despite the breast cancer in the family. Being such a small amount it might be okay for you and not effect your skin in the same way.
  I also did Mona Lisa Touch last week. The jury is still out – it has helped with my urgency incontinence and I am waking less often to go to the toilet in the night so it was worth it just for that. Whether or not it helps with sex I’m not yet convinced. Three treatments are optimum so will update you.

Thank you Angie for this video. I am a menopausal 48 year young women since last year after a total Hysterectomy. Manopause sucks but the price for the hormones patch sucks too. yes please We need to send a letter to our politicians I don’t think is right for us to pay almost 100 dlls for the damn patch, I use minivelle patch .1 mg Estradiol and I think it’s worth it because I feel way better with it and I think it save my marriage.
Before the patch I was feeling horrible, zero libido, horrible dry skin, hot flashes 24 hrs a day, brain fog, mood changes and my skin is so dry after being oily my whole life. what a nice combo ! God Bless you.

Hi Angi, thank you so much for telling this. I don’t have hot flashes yet but I’m not looking forward to have them at night (maybe soon; I’m 52). I didn’t know it was possible to get the patches in lower doses (to begin with). I hope you will let us know if they are making you feel better and how much time that will take. Above all: if you will have beter sleep.
I have another question. Your teeth are so white (looks beautiful). Do you use at home brightening or do you go to your dentist to brighten them.

  Hi Lily~ I think the patch is starting to work since I haven’t had any hot flashes in a few days, my sleep still isn’t great, so I’m not sure but I don’t really want to go up in dosage, so I’ll go a while longer to see if it makes a big difference that’s worth the potential risks. My top front teeth are veneers so I don’t have to do any whitening. Your english is great, you expressed yourself very well. Thanks for writing! xo ~angie

    Thank you for answering Angie! You mention your sleep still isn’t great. Does that mean that you’re still having flashes at night? Or could hormonal change be the reason for that? That’s the reason why I don’t sleep so well while I don’t have the flashes yet.

      Hi Lily~ Estrogen (or lack thereof) is responsible for the hot flashes while Progesterone is responsible for sleep. It’s another week on and I’m sleeping much better now & my hot flashes have stopped so the combo patch seems to be working. My doctor put me on the lowest dose and I was hoping I wouldn’t have to go up so I’m happy it’s working. If you’re not having hot flashes you might just need progesterone but I don’t know enough about it to know if you can use one without the other… xo ~angie

A few years ago I saw your tutorials for the first time. I bought my first pallet and practiced. I get so much compliments nowadays. No need to have my eyelids done anymore. It makes such a difference. Maybe I can give you a tip too 😉 : looks great on the eyes: Eyeko waterproof shadow liner. I bought it in taupe (moving eyelid) and chocolat (crease and above) (No, I don’t have stocks)

I’ve been following your posts for a while now and wanted to congratulate you. You seem very dedicated and honest and I very much enjoy watching you – you look GREAT by the way!

I’m 42 years old and all your recommandations and advices are so precious! As for menopause – I’m not quite there yet – it still preoccupies me and makes me feel apprehensive. Seems like such a big hormonal nightmare!!

I rarely comment on social media but I wanted to say a quick hello and thank you for all the work testing products and procedures. It’s truly appreciated!

Hi Angie! I was also on a low dose patch for about 3 months but it caused cysts for me, so I went off of it to a low dose birth control pill for two years that definitely saved my sanity. But I wanted to let you know I have BCBS and both were covered with no deductible. So perhaps talk with your plan. No reason you should be paying a deductible. Don’t fret, it will get better, promise. Good luck! Hugs!!

I started having terrible hot flashes in late September. I did some research and talked to a friend who had them also. I started taking Estrotone which is an herbal based estrogen replacement. I took it faithfully every day and I have not had a hot flash since early December. They gradually decreased in amount (I was probably having 7-8 a day) and then stopped. I did speak to my doctor when I went in for my yearly pap smear; he said if it worked for me, go for it. I order mine from Amazon.

Amen sister. I’m hot when my students are cold, I have belly fat that I never had, getting ready for bed takes 10 times longer, and I have hairs growing in new places. It’s not for sissies.
