Morning Anti-Aging Skincare Routine

It’s been about 8 months since I’ve updated my skincare routine and a couple things have changed! I’m trying to keep it short and simple by separating the AM & PM routines in to 2 separate posts.

Today is my Morning Anti-Aging Skincare Routine. It has the entire routine (including NuFace) in (almost) real time so you can see the actual amount of time it takes me. But you know I can’t talk about skincare without explaining why I use each product, what the active ingredient is and exactly how I apply it!

Thanks for sharing all of your knowlede! I am allergic to propylene glycol so I can’t use the Timeless Vitamin CE Ferulic serum (and I can’t use the Glowmaker because I believe the lecithin is made with soy). Have you tried the Ordinary powder? If so, what are your thoughts?

Also, where would I incorporate facial oils? After moisturizer but before SPF?

Hi Angie, I’m loving the way my skin looks with your day and evening routines. Now that its winter I’m feeling my skin needs abit more moisture so I’m thinking of changing cleanser to the Mad hippie that you’ve recommended before. Could you recommend for daytime a moisturizer for winter time that’s still packed with great ingredients but more emollient?

Hi Angie – Have you ever used hydroquinone? I started a Rx (6% HQ + 4%kojic acid). Wondering if I would follow the same steps with each serum or remove any products to avoid reaction or overlap. Thoughts?

Hi Angie,
1. I believe you mentioned before that aloe vera gel is a good conductor for Nuface Trinity. My question, can I use the aloe vera that’s used for sunburns, with the Nuface Trinity?

2. Another Nuface question, what setting do you put it on? I’ve tried setting 5 and notice alittle tingling at jaw area but no feeling at all on forehead or neck.

What setting below the eyebrows?

Maybe I’m not putting enough gel, but I’m not sure if it’s working properly if I don’t feel anything

3. Is your new favorite primer the Revlon colorway prep&primer?

  Hi Anastasia~ Aloe gel makes a great conductor for NuFace! You can use any Aloe gel as long as it doesn’t contain any oil (most don’t). I use my NuFace on the highest setting (5) for all parts of my face. The gel makes it so you don’t feel the current so if you want to feel it more, use less gel but if you want to feel nothing then use more. If you want to check to make sure your NuFace is working just press it to any part of your face with no gel & you’ll feel the current. I do like the Revlon primer a lot but my new fave is IT Cosmetics Gripping Primer! xo ~angie

1) I know there is a science behind the morning serum order…did you know they are alphabetical, too? C-L-Q (haha!)

2) How long after Frax did you start the NuFace? I have a treatment scheduled in 2 weeks.

  Hi Kim~ I never noticed that! I’ll bet you’re great at word puzzles! I don’t remember exactly how long I didn’t use NuFace after Fraxel but it was a while… I feel like I didn’t use it for 2-3 weeks (or until my skin was all done flaking). xo ~angie

Hi Angie,
I really love your posts and videos and for the wealth of knowledge you’ve shared. One thing I’m confused about is using tretinoin/retin a under the eye area. That is one of my most challenging areas. Ive been told by 2 different dermatologists that tretinoin should not be used in this area because it will thin out the skin in an area where the skin is already thin. Thanks for the help.

  Hi Maryann~ As you know I’m not a dermatologist and don’t like to disagree with people’s doctors but I think the 2 you talked to are incorrect. The facts are that tretinoin only thins the outer layer of dead skin cells called the stratum corneum. This helps the skin look brighter and less dry since there are less dull dead skin cells stacked up. Tretinoin thickens the deeper layers of skin called the dermis & epidermis by stimulating collagen production. Thicker skin with more collagen is firmer, plumper and less prone to wrinkles. I would understand if they said no, don’t use it under the eyes because it can be drying or irritating though since it can make skin look older/worse if used incorrectly. The trick is to ease in slowly with it over a long period of time (like a year) to slowly acclimate skin. xo ~angie

I really struggle with lax skin on my neck & wondered what you’ve done recently other than products and daily regime. You are a real inspiration. Are you no longer using the Olay serum? I love the way it feels but I’m not sure if I have a real reason to continue to spend money on it if I am doing the other steps. (Except for the ordinary product, I don’t use it.) Also, have you found that there is no longer a benefit to mixing the retinal cream with the alpha skin care lotion?

  Right, I don’t use the Olay serum any more since I get the same ingredients in other products. There probably is a benefit to using both the retinol body lotion and the AHA body lotion either mixed or alternating days but I just got tired of buying both.

Thanks for showing the process in real time! I am a bit confused about using my NuFace, so seeing your routine really helped. I know our faces are difference, so the NF process will look a little different…but you use yours in very different ways that I do! I just follow the NF tutorials, which you do, but there are some different moves. And I know you love NF & rave about it, but I’m not having similar results (again, I know we are all different). I’m going to add the upward sweep motion you do, and figure out a way to do this every day. I do most days, but not all, and it seems to take me FOREVER to complete it! So if I’m short on time, it’s the first thing to go. And the gel I use for it might be irritating my skin, or it might just be from all the additional rinsing. My skin is soooo dry after this process (tights, flakey ALL over, etc.). Sometimes I do it at night b/c I had a super early morning w/little time. And I wonder if it’s a waste to do before bed.

All of this is to say, thanks for sharing your routine and know that more like this are appreciated! And I always try to get the info and answers to my questions from your videos, rather than blasting you with more questions.

  Hi Ally~ You should look at the ingredients in the gel you use for anything that might be drying or irritating (sd alcohol or propanediol). I know it can be hard to find the time in the morning so I’d say doing it at night is better than not doing it, but mornning is optimal. xo ~angie
