The code will be good until November 14, 2014. I’ll be posting a full review of the device after I’ve used it for 4-6 weeks (mid-September), so the code will still be in effect then!

PMD

PMD is a home microdermabrasion tool that uses suction in combination with a rotating disk embedded with aluminum oxide crystals to gently remove the top layer of dull, dead skin. It promises to improve the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, brown spots, hyperpigmentation, blemishes, pore size, and uneven skin tone and texture. The PMD retails for $179 and comes with 4 face tips and 3 larger tips for use on the body.

The white tip is the training tip for the first use, the blue tips are for sensitive skin, and the green tips are medium abrasion. The instruction say to use it once a week starting with the gentlest tip and working up from there over time. Results are cumulative so it can take 6-10 weeks to see a reduction in wrinkles and discoloration.

The PMD is not suitable for use with topical anti-aging treatments like lactic acid, glycolic acid, peels, retinols or retin-a (tretinoin) so I had to discontinue my tretinoin use. It was a tough decision, because I really love my results with retin-a over the past 18 months, but I’m going to be out in the sun a lot for the next couple of weeks, so I decided to stop and give the PMD a try.

I stopped using retin-a a full week before using the PMD for the first time, I also did a patch test below my ear to check for irritation. To use the device, I washed my face, let it dry completely, plugged in and was off & running.

PMD 1st Use

The only places the instructions say not do is below the eyes and eyelids. Keeping the unit moving is important to avoid damaging the skin. Some areas are harder to get suction than others, but overall it was easy and painless to use. The sound reminded me of using a power sander in woodshop (there was even “sawdust”!!

When the treatment was finished I used a toner and a moisturizer (provided) to calm and sooth my skin. Immediately after the 1st use my skin was pretty red and irritated and stung a tiny bit in a few places. The next morning the redness was diminished and I didn’t have any damaged areas so I was happy I didn’t hurt myself!
