PUR “Love Your Selfie” Palette Review
I haven’t tried too many products from PUR Minerals, but I recently got their new “Double Ego” Eyeliner pen and it’s quickly become one of my favorites so I decided to try some more products from the brand. . . and what better way to try lots of things at once than with a Limited Edition boxed set! When I saw the PUR “Love Your Selfie” palette* in it’s sleek white and silver box, I had to pick it up.
The set retails for $39 (for a $125 value) and contains 5 of PUR’s best selling products: Chateau Kiss Lip Gloss in “Exposed”, Big Look Mascara, Mineral Glow Bronzer, Savvy Blush, and Afterglow Illuminating Powder, along with 8 Limited Edition Eye Shadows. It’s all contained in a compact box complete with a large mirror to create that perfect “selfie” moment!
The eyeshadow selection is a well-curated group of both warm and cool tones with a mix of mattes and shimmers, lights and darks. My favorites are “Exposure” which is a matte champagne color, “Capture” which is an awesome medium matte taupe, and “Filter” which is a shimmery rose/gold/grey. There’s also a deep dark matte black which is great for smoking out any look or can be used wet as eyeliner! “Fade” and “Sepia” are warmer tones that I’ll probably get less use out of but it’s nice to have them for doing warmer looks to make blue eyes pop. For me, “Flash” and “Photobomb” are less successful shades. “Flash” seemed to disappear on my eyelids, and “Photobomb” doesn’t deliver the color or shimmer that it shows in the pan. It should be a gorgeous dark metallic plum but it just goes on grey without much shimmer.
The Mineral Glow Bronzer is a warm fawn color that has the slightest hint of shimmer. I initially thought it would be too warm for me, but I was pleasantly surprised at how nice it looks as a light all over bronzer or as a contour color.
The Savvy Blush is a lovely rosie pink that’s almost matte and looks great dusted on the apples of the cheeks.
Afterglow Illuminating Powder highlighter is my least favorite out of the 3 face powders. It looks great in the pan with a great color and just the right amount of shimmer without glitter, but on the skin the powder is a little too white and opaque for my taste.
The lipgloss comes in “Exposed” which is a really wearable nude shade. It’s not too orange, too brown, too pink, or too pale. The opacity is good so the color shows true on the lip and the the soft gloss is great for older lips. It’s long wearing and moisturizing too!
The big surprise in this kit is the Big Look Mascara. . . one use and I was hooked! It adds lots of length and even a little volume without adding “bits & pieces”, or making lashes look like spider legs. Lashes are glossy black, separated, longer, yet natural looking. It wears great all day and is easy to remove with cleanser and water.
My criticisms of the “Love Your Selfie” kit are that all the powders are very dry and could be much creamier so they blend better and last longer. There’s so much fall-out from the eyeshadows that I have a pile of eyeshadow dust on my counter after I use it, and I have to cover my under eye area with a tissue or shadow guard so I don’t ruin my foundation. The same holds true for the face powders and I found them slightly drying to wear.
Overall, I think this is a worthwhile kit that contains some very good products, and at $39 it’s a great way to try out some PUR products. I love the look I created using the whole kit. It’s youthful and natural looking and the kit would be great for travel. As usual, it’s a mixed bag, but I think the pros outweigh the cons. Purchased separately, the lip gloss and mascara would be $38, so for only $1 more you get 8 eyeshadows and 3 face powders!
