Spring 2016 Lookbook!

You know that saying about March coming in like a lion and going out like a lamb? Here in New England we get the lion/lamb part but some years it doesn’t happen until May!! It’s still 45 degrees & raining this week so the first half of my Spring 2016 Lookbook is more for the lion weather! But keep scrolling down because there are lighter outfits down below for real spring weather when the birdies are chirping and the sun’s shining!

I’m incorporating a few of the current trends like “cold shoulder” tops, embellished yokes, and lace up shoes, with a soft muted palette of pinks, grays, and taupes with layers, jackets, and booties.

Outfit 1:

Outfit 1 Purple Sweater

This is a pretty standard spring in New England outfit with lots of layers! I love this lightweight lavender cross-over sweater with the bralette and tank top underneath. The lacy details play perfectly with the dainty silver necklaces!

Joe’s jeans are my current faves and this skinny distressed boyfriend style is great for a casual day with the Steve Madden sneaks. These jeans can be dressed up with a heel or wedge sandal.

Soft suede in muted shades is so in right now so I picked up this Treasure & Bond Hobo bag to take the place of my black winter purse.

Not pictured is my North Face rain jacket… a must for us sports moms who have to spend time in the bleachers in the rain. It’s warm, waterproof, and super cute with the waist cinching buckles!

Outfit 2:

Outfit 2 Hinge Jacket

These military jackets are a must have this season! This one has an adjustable drawstring waist and cute details all in the perfect weight cotton fabric… Love!

My top features dainty lace trim and a pin-tuck yoke detail. It’s sleeveless, sheer and floaty so I can lose the jacket if the day gets warm.

This ingenious necklace is from Madewell. The length is fully adjustable so it can be worn long to short!

The jeans I have on are my all time favorites! They’re from Red Engine and they have the perfect amount of stretch yet they never get saggy so they’re always flattering!

My bag is a little vegan leather fold over from Anthropologie. It’s got a woven front with a long box chain strap so it goes with casual and dressy outfits.

It’s still sock weather this week so I’m wearing my Dolce Vita booties in black suede. They’re cute and comfy!

Outfit 3:

Outfit 3 Olive Pants

This is such an easy simple outfit that’s so versatile. I’d wear this to work, lunch, or even date night!

After looking for this style of pants for almost a year I finally found a pair that fit great, look cool, and didn’t break the bank (I think they’re on sale now too)! They’re a lightweight fabric that drapes nicely and is so soft and comfy! I’m not a huge fan of the elastic waist, but leaving my top untucked at the back hides it!

I’m dressing the pants up with a simple black tee-shirt and a statement lariat necklace. The mix of gold and silver accents the olive pants perfectly.

I’m showing a dressier shoe with it here, but these pants look equally good with espadrille wedges or flat strappy sandals!

Outfit 4:

Outfit 4 Leather Jacket

This outfit feels like spring to me! It’s got a soft pale color scheme with light layers that flatter.

I can’t get enough soft taupe and grey leather and suede this year! This leather jacket is buttery soft and the shrunken fit, draped collar, and angled zip pockets are on trend now!

You can’t see my cold shoulders in this picture, but the “cold-shoulder” top is another trend that’s very wearable for people over 50. This one’s in a soft pale pink open weave with dolman sleeves.

These white skinny jeans are my go-to’s for spring and they integrate perfectly with the muted color palette!

The shoes! Yes, another trend is the lace up shoes. These taupe suede open-toe booties look modern and fresh with the low block heel and sun-ray cutouts.

Outfit 5:

Outfit 5 Free People Top

I already showed most of this outfit in my Beach Vacation Lookbook a couple weeks ago, but this is just another way to wear those versatile white cropped pants from Target!

The pants are cut smaller this year so if you’ve gotten them before, definitely size up, otherwise they seemed true to size.

This top is from Free People and I love the distressed dye and the soft broken-in fabric. The tie at the neck can take it from work to play.

I’m loving these wedge espadrille sandals in the grey suede with the white pants!

My necklace adds both edge and sparkle with it’s needle-like shape and pave crystals.

Outfit 6:

Outfit 6 Long over Short

I love those days that are almost warm enough for shorts but not quite. That’s when I break out my “long-over-short” outfits!

I picked up this open weave lightweight sweater lightweight sweater (similar) at H&M and layered it over a black tank. I couldn’t find the exact sweater on the H&M website so I linked something similar below that will work just as well if not better!

The necklace by Madewell is adjustable so you can wear it long or short by pulling on two little toggles.

I bought this hobo bag about a month ago and now it’s sold out… they make a draw string style in the same color or this style is still around in black and brown.

I got these shorts in February while I was in Florida. They’re super flattering and the neutral color works with lots of colors (besides black)!

Loving these Steve Madden sandals! They have a low block heel so I can walk for hours in them and the tasseled back zip is cute and on point. Use this link for the Steve Madden sandals shown in the picture. Below is another shoe I’d wear with this outfit to dress it up a little.

Outfit 7:

Outfit 7 Red Dress

I always like to include a dress for each season. Some occasion always comes up suddenly so it’s nice to have one at the ready!

I picked this dress because it looks great, it’s well made, and it was under $100! I tried on so many dresses that were either too long or too short and finally, this one was just right!!

The fabric is a lightweight crepe that drapes beautifully. It’s fully lined and has a tulip skirt, draped back detail and best of all… pockets!!

I put it with a chunky gold tone and beaded necklace that can be worn long or doubled up as I’m showing it here for a sophisticated look.

The vegan grey suede bag is dressy enough to compliment the dress because of the heavy woven gold chain.

The mid-height heel sandals complete the look.
